Great White Sharks
Seal Island in False Bay. Local breeding area for the fur seals. Attracts sharks Several meters of great white shark This was a seal a few seconds before The seagulls followed the sharks around, picking up scraps. This shark hit our decoy before we even ran it out on the line. He is maybe 3 foot from the boat Our decoy, after the attentions of 3 meters of shark Cage in the water, shark lured up to the boat, we are ready to go diving. Jill was the first volunteer to get in the water From this point forward, we never saw another shark. They all apparently left the area as a professional courtesy to Jill Southern Right whale, on its back, sunning with its flippers in the air. 2010-Africa-1002010-Africa-100
Venetia Limpopo Safari
The entrance to Little Muck Lodge, on the DeBeers owned venetia limpopo reserve Note the oxpeckers on its neck cleaning the bugs off Juvenile male, putting on a display 1500+ Year Old Boabab Tree Lilac-breasted roller. Pictures do not do the colors on this bird justice. This little @#)(*@ kept sneaking up and stealing our biltong (Jerky) Cheetah Brothers, one is radio collared The Toyota LandCruiser. Possibly the most impressive AWD vehicle I've ever been in. Sub-Adult lion. Also radio tracked Elephant Droppings... All over the place. The damage to the trees are from elephants. They've pretty much already knocked down anything smaller One of the sunbird species? Radio Tracking one of the lions. We were driving over trees to find these. This guy snuck up behind us while out of the truck for a drink and a stretch. We were instructed to get back in the truck quickly Thorn Tree. Each of these while thorns is 2 inches long. Fun to drive thru. Blade, the Alpha male of the region Tracking Lions thru the bush Horrible picture of a malachite kingfisher. I tried for 30 minutes to get his bird. Baboons. Jackal waiting for his turn on the Cheetah kill Driving down riverbeds that are dry in this season Everyone's got a little Captain in them This elephant was all of 12 inches away from the truck He decided to explore the truck personally A researcher had tied meat to a tree, (hence the blue rope) to lure this cat in for study. This went WHILE we were watching the leopard and hyena. We choose to drive on it for a while before getting out and changing it. These guys alerted us to the python, they were making a huge amount of noise and trying to pester it out of the tree. 15+ feet of African Rock Python This was waiting for us in the tent on our return. I believe it's a Huntsman spider? Prolly 6 inches across
Rhino Lion Park
It was feeding time in Rhino & Lion Park, and they just kinda meandered over "We went to play with the cubs, and the guide suggested we try the 9 month olds, as they were more "frisky"
